Get To Know Joe
Joe Buck grew up in Lake Oswego, the third generation of his family to now reside here. Joe’s grandparents, Tony and Anne Gubanc, moved to L.O. in the mid-1970s and opened Gubanc’s Restaurant in Lake Grove. Joe’s father, Michael Buck, a business and community leader, owned and operated Gubanc’s for several decades. Joe worked side-by-side with his father from a young age learning how to operate a business rooted in Democratic values, caring deeply for their family of employees and being active stewards of the community.
Joe graduated from the University of Portland with a degree in business administration with an emphasis on accounting and worked for several years as a staff accountant at a Portland CPA firm. Joe succeeded his father at Gubanc's and then founded Babica Hen Cafe which now has two locations. Joe also operates a boutique inn in Oregon’s wine country. As a small business owner Joe understands the needs of working Oregonians. He advocates for his employees promoting policies that foster wage equality, a healthy and robust work environment, and fairness and respect for all.
In 2014 Joe was elected to the Lake Oswego City Council. His service on the Council demonstrates proven effectiveness fighting successfully for public policies including initiatives to better protect the environment, promote active (bike/ped) transporation while maintaining existing infrastructure, actively engage youth in local decision making and promoting a better sense of community through the programs and services offered by the City. He believes that diverse, connected communities are healthy communities and aspire to creates places people live in out of desire rather than economic necessity.
Joe's two siblings, their spouses and his three young nephews all reside in Southwest Portland, and his parents live in Lake Oswego. With his family, employees and businesses all rooted in this community, Joe is committed to the people of Metro District 2 and cares deeply for the health and prosperity of all who live and work in the Metro area. Joe is an avid runner and fitness devotee and loves exploring Oregon with his two dogs.
